The Hindenburg exploded in midflight.  How did that happen?  By the way, why did it fly?

Copper isn't always a "copper" color.  Why does it change?

Why is the formula for water H₂O?   Speaking of the elements in water, hydrogen and oxygen are both gases that support combustion, but we use water to put out fires.  How does that happen?

Chemical formulas seem random and confusing.  Are there rules or guidelines in writing them?

Students in chemistry will focus on the periodic table of elements - trends, interactions, reactivity, formations of different types of bonds, chemical and physical properties of substances, chemical reactions between compounds, different types of chemical bonds and develop a critical understanding of chemistry. This understanding will help students problem solve some of the big difficulties facing us: which alternative fuels are useful and cost effective, how to make more recycable plastics, ways to decrease the pollution released, etc.

Students will participate in lab actvities to assist in understanding.  To be successful, students need to complete required assignments and be prepared for class.
